Thousands of people marched in the capitals of Belgium and Germany protesting against rising antisemitism in Europe. These were latest such manifestations of support for Israel in national capitals since the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, which was followed by increased antisemitic incidents. Marches in Paris and in London drew tens of thousands of people. There have also been many pro-Palestinian rallies, often drawing large crowds.

The Biden administration used emergency powers this weekend to bypass congressional approval to allow the immediate sale of 14,000+ 120mm tank shells to Israel. The sale is worth $106 million and is part of a much bigger sale of military materiel to Israel worth $500 million+,  which was announced by the Biden administration on Dec. 8 and is scheduled to be approved in individual parts.

The Metropolitan Police of London UK is investigating an attack by two teenaged males who beat a beat a 20-year-old Jewish woman unconscious on Dec. 7 in the Stamford Hill/Tottenham neighborhood, a heavily Jewish part of the English capital. In surveillance video, several persons appeared to pass by the assailants as they attacked the woman. Several others later checked on the unconscious woman.

On Dec. 9, pro-Palestine protesters in Brooklyn NY swarmed a weeping woman who was holding an Israeli flag. Police responded by protecting her as the crowd screamed threats. The incident occured during the “Flood Brooklyn for Gaza” protest, which drew an estimated 5,000 demonstrators to the Brooklyn Museum for a march that took them to Barclays Center, the Brooklyn Bridge, and City Hall.

In Manhattan, a man assaulted an elderly Chasidic Jewish man and hurlted antisemitic insults in a store on Dec. 4 in the financial district of NYC. 

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) called on colleges and universities to address antisemitism and what she described as any “calls for genocide” after Ivy League presidents faced backlash for not condemning threats of violence against Jewish students during congressional testimony earlier this week. In a letter to campus presidents, she said her administration will enforce violations of the state’s Human Rights Law and refer any violations of federal civil rights law to U.S. officials.

On Dec. 10, France said one of its warships in the Red Sea was targeted by two drones from Yemen. Both were shot down. The French navy did not reveal who launched the drones at the French frigate Languedoc on Dec. 9. The Houthi rebels have taken responsbility for firing missiles at Israel, and launching drones at US Navy vessels in recent weeks.

According to Palestinian Authority PM Mohammad Shtyyeh, Hamas is an “essential part of the Palestinian political mosaic,” in a speech to mostly Muslim national leaders gathered in Qatar on Dec. 19, He said that Israel’s goal of eliminating the Islamist terror group is “unacceptable.” 

Israeli PM Netanyahu spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Dec. 10 about the war with Hamas, and criticized Russia's support for Hamas. Netanyahu expressed his displeasure with Russian representatives at the UN and other international forums for their positions taken against Israel.

The IDF carried out strikes on some 250 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip on Dec. 9-10, while troops continue to battle terrorists on the ground. Overnight strikes included targeting a Hamas compound in Khan Younis and several tunnel shafts in the area. On Dec. 10, Israeli ground forced found and destroyed Hamas weapons, tunnel shafts, and killed terrorists.

Overnight, the IDF said on of its jets was directed by troops of the Givati Infantry Brigade and struck a Hamas communications site next to a mosque in southern Gaza. After the strike, the Givati troops raided the site. The elite Unit Egoz commandos over the last day struck tunnel shafts in the Khan Younis area using guided munitions.

A Chinese man named Jaifeng Chen was arrested by federal authorities in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for allegedly spraying swastikas on at the Chabad House of Kalamazoo. The Chinese nationals is also accused of smearing racist graffiti around nearby Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Chabad House is part of a network of Orthodox Jewish synagogues, schools, and youth centers throughout the US.

The Hamas terrorist organization threatened to kill the rest of its remaining hostages if its demands are not met for more aid and prisoners in Israel not released. Israeli PM Netanyahu's office has said that 137 hostages remain in captivity. Hamas continues to hold the bodies of hostages who died in captivity, Israel said over the weekend. Abu Obeida said in a television statement that no hostages will be released alive unless Israel agrees to its demands in the negotiations that faltered at the beginning of this month. Hamas has demanded more aid, and that Palestinians held in Israeli prisons be released, among other demands. 

Abu Obeida said: “Neither the fascist enemy and its arrogant leadership… nor its supporters… can take their prisoners alive without an exchange and negotiation and meeting the demands of the resistance.”

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will visit Israel by the weekend. The Biden administration has sent top envoys, such as Secretary of State Blinken, on a nearly weekly schedules to coordinat over Israel's military response to Hamas terrorism. Sullivan is reported to be pushing for more humanitarian aid to Gaza, which has dropped off since the end of the pause in fighting that ended on Dec. 1 after seven days. Israel disavowed claims that it is at fault the shortfall in aid, pointing the blame at foreign governments and agencies for failing to deliver enough aid. Egypt and the UN blamed Israel's bombing campaign. 

The Times of Israel cited a US official saying that one of Sullivan's concerns is the death toll among Gazan civilians. 

A female IDF soldier, Ori Megidish, who was rescued from Hamas captivity told Sara Netanyahu that she wants to return to military service. Megidish told PM Benjamin Netanyahu's wife that she is in good health and that “I won’t let anyone defeat me. Even when I was there, I wasn’t afraid of them.”

Bilal Ziyadne, an Arab Israeli, was taken captive by Hamas terrorists from Kibbutz Holit on October 7. Ziyadne, 18, returned a week ago after more than 50 days of Hamas captivity. “I told them we were Arabs. They said to us, even though we’re Arabs, they’re kidnapping us,” he recountsed. He and his brother, sister, and father were abducted by the terrorists. So far, only Ziyadne and his sister have been released by Hamas. He said they were feed enough food. He said he did not know there were other hostages outside of the four members of his family. “We didn’t think the war would take that long, it felt like such a long time, we prayed to be freed,” he says. He said he and family members were given “a mattress, pillow, blanket,” unlikethe freed Israeli hostages who said they slept on the bare ground and were given barely enough food to survive. He said, "I’m scared for those who are still there… I feel and I know what they’re going through.”

Famed movie director Steven Spielberg launched a documentary film project about the "unspeakable barbarity" perpetrated by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7. He is collecting testimonies about the atrocities that will be added to his USC Shoah Foundation’s collection of Holocaust survivor and witness testimony. “I never imagined I would see such unspeakable barbarity against Jews in my lifetime,” Spielberg was quoted as saying by the foundation, which holds the world’s largest video collection of Holocaust survivor and witness testimony.

The UN Commission of Inquiry (COI) investigating Hamas’ crimes of rape and sexual abuse of Israelis was called an "antisemitic" group by Israel's ambassador to the UN, who said it is incapable of conducting an unbiased investigation. "The antisemitic Commission of Inquiry, established by the morally distorted Human Rights Council, which recently appointed Iran as chair of the council’s Social Forum, is biased against Israel in every way," Israel’s Ambassador Gilad Erdan told Fox News. "Therefore, Israel has zero trust in its findings and its illegitimate activities. Its ‘investigation’ into the terror organization’s sexual crimes against Israeli women on Oct. 7 is akin to Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas in Gaza, investigating its crimes."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the authenticity of photos and videos showing dozens of Hamas terrorists surrendering to the Israel Defense Forces in Gaza. “Over the past few days, dozens of Hamas terrorists have surrendered to our forces. They are laying down their weapons and handing themselves over to our heroic soldiers,” Netanyahu said in a video statement.

World Health Organization chief Tedros Ghebreyesus said his organization partnered with others in Gaza to deliver trauma and surgical supplies to Gaza’s Al Ahli hospital to cover the needs of 1,500 people, as well as transfer 19 critical patients. “This was another very high-risk mission in the vicinity of active shelling and artillery fire.The hospital itself has been substantially damaged, and in acute need of oxygen and essential medical supplies, water, food and fuel. Critically, the hospital needs additional health personnel,” he said.

According to a CBS News poll, most Americans disapprove of President Biden's handling of the war between Hamas and Israel. The poll showed that 46% of Americans polled believe that the Biden administration is making “no impact” on a peaceful resolution in the war. Only 20% believe that the Biden administration is “more likely” to be making a peaceful resolution. 34% believe the US president is “less likely” to be making a peaceful resolution. Among Democrats, 38% believe that Biden is showing “too much support” for Israel, which is a 10% jump from a poll conducted in October. Only 8% of Democrats believe that the Biden administration is not showing enough support, a 2% decrease from October. Fifty-four percent of Democrats believe that Biden is showing the “right amount of support”, an 8% decrease from October.

Israel plans to conduct war crimes trials for Hamas terrorists for their participation in the the October 7 massacre. Dozens were captured as 1,200 Jews were murdered and nearly 250 taken hostage. The plan has drawn comparisons to the post-World War 2 trials of Nazi criminals in Nuremberg. Hamas terrorists interrogated by Israeli intelligence officers who are found to have committed acts in violation of the laws of war may face the death penalty. They would be the first executed in Israel since Nazi Adolf Eichmann was hanged for war crimes in 1962. There are about 100 Hamas jihadis being held at the present time. 

Thousands of Belgians turned out in the streets of Brussels to denounce antisemitism, following an uptick in antisemitic attacks throughout Western Europe since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out on Oct. 7. Approximately 4,000 people attended the march in the Belgian capital, with some holding placards reading: “You don’t have to be Jewish to march against antisemitism.” According to EU chief Ursula von der Leyen, who spoke during a Hannukkah candlelighting ceremony in Brussels, “An old evil is resurfacing in Europe.” She said: “Swastikas have been painted on the homes of Jews. Synagogues have been vandalized. Jewish children have been locked in their schools because the streets are not safe for them. This is horrific. And it is painful.”

“There should be no place for this hatred, especially here in Europe. And there is no justification to the rise in antisemitism. No war, no political argument, can excuse it,” she added.

Israel, not the US, will decide when to end its war against Hamas in Gaza, said Secretary of State Antony Blinken today, following reports that the Biden administration has been pressurizing Israel to end operations by the end of the year. Blinken told CNN’s Jake Tapper that the US has discussed the "duration" of the war as as “how it’s prosecuting this campaign against Hamas.”

“These are decisions for Israel to make,” he added.
Israel’s war with Hamas began with the terror group’s shock onslaught on October 7 in which thousands of terrorists burst into southern Israel from the land, air and sea, killing more than 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and seizing some 240 hostages.

Cypriot security and law enforcement agencies cooperated with Israel's Mossad intelligence agency to thwart an Iranian terrorist cell that planned to carry out attacks against Israeli and Jewish targets in Cyprus. The cell was arrested by Cypriot security services, which collected intelligence that can be used to thwart future terrorist operations by the Islamic Republic. 

Israel’s Immigration Authority said that since Oct. 7 it has seen the entry of 10,000 foreign workers who came to work in various industries, including agriculture and construction. The number includes foreign workers who left at the outbreak of the war and returned later and to new foreign workers who first arrived in Israel, including those from Moldova, Malawi, and the Philippines.

Israel's Shin Bet security agency published video in which former Hamas communications minister, Yousef al-Mansi, is interrogated. He criticized Hamas, saying: "This is a group of crazy people that [Yahya] Sinwar leads. They destroyed the Gaza Strip. Set it back 200 years.”Al-Mansi said, “People in the Gaza Strip say that Sinwar and his group destroyed us. We must get rid of them.... I have not seen anyone in the Gaza Strip who supports Sinwar, nobody likes Sinwar. There are people who, day and night, pray that God will free us from him." He said terrorist mastermind Sinwar has “delusions of grandeur,” and that he “feels like he is above everyone else. Acts only as he thinks. He makes decisions without consulting anyone.”

Al-Mansi claimed that the terrorist onslaught of October 7 are “the opposite of Islam.” “This is heresy, madness. What they did is unacceptable according to logic, religion or intellect. Those who are responsible for this are Sinwar and his group.”

Regarding footage of alleged vandalization of Gazans' property by IDF troops, IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari  said: “IDF troops operate according to the IDF’s values and spirit. Troops on the battlefield are required to act with professionalism and with morals. We will not compromise on this.” Hagari said that troops participating in any activities in violation of IDF's rules will be reprimanded or punished.

Regarding leaked video showing Gazan men detained by the IDF in Gaza, Hagari said the photos were not distributed by the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit. “We tell people to undress to make sure they don’t have explosive belts on,” he said. He sadid that dozens of the detained men are Hamas operatives, while many others are uninvolved civilians. 

Hagari said the IDF has discovered a large tunnel network in Gaza City, below the so-called Palestine Square. He said that the 401st Armored Brigade, Navy Shayetet 13 commando unit, and the Air Force’s Shaldag unit recently completed the capture of the Palestine Square area. “The Palestine Square area houses Yahya Sinwar’s office, government offices, assets of senior Hamas officials, and there is a network of terror tunnels,” Hagari said. He said the IDF used “accurate intelligence” and located the network of “strategic tunnels” in the area, which he says connect to Shifa Hospital. “This is the area of the main command center, where senior Hamas members were on October 7 and during the fighting, and during the fighting, they moved to other areas,” he said. Israeli troops continue probing the labyrinth of tunnels.

Israel's head of National Security Council Tzachi Hanegbi said no further photos of Gazans surrendering to the IDF will be circulated. The photos have caused questioning of Israel's arrest procedures. “It doesn’t serve anything,” Hanegbi said of the images: “I think that you won’t be seeing images like this in the future.”

Hanegbi said those surrendering in Gaza are instructed to strip to their underwear to prove they have no explosives. He said, "I hope that we see many such photos of people surrendering without a fight and giving up their weapons, they’ll be checked as needed, but after that will get dressed and that’s how they will be taken — they don’t need to be taken in the way we saw in the first photos.”

The IDF killed Emad Qariqa, a new commander of Hamas’s Shejaiya battalion, in an airstrike in the Gaza Strip today. He had replaced Wissam Farhat, after the Israeli air forced killed the latter on December 2. The IDF said Qariqa previously served as the deputy commander of the Shejaiya battalion, since 2019.

Israel's socioeconomic cabinet voted against allowing the readmittance of Palestinian laborers from the West Bank, Samaria and Judea. They have been barred ever since the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas.  Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said the cabinet is against approving the move, saying, “We can and must advance alternatives that will provide a different solution to the economy.”

Because laborers from Thailand and elsewhere left Israel at the start of the war, and Palestinian laborers have been barred, Israel is facing a significant labor shortage.“Money and building permits do not buy peace,” Smotrich said: “Whoever killed us when there was no money will kill us also when there is money. The security of the citizens of Israel comes first.”

PM Netanyahu wants to West Bank Palestinians with permits to return to work, but it is not clear if he has a majority of support in the cabinet.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi says there must be a “very clear change” to the security situation on the Lebanon border. Visiting the 91st Division in northern Israel, he said, "Both in the south and in the north, we need to return to a different situation, and return both security and a sense of security...The State of Israel has never said that war is the first solution to try, but we understand that with the situation here [in the north], it should end in a very, very clear change of situation." Hezbollah has made repeated rocket, missile, and drone attacks on army bases and civilians in northern Israel during the war in Gaza.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant lighted Hanukkah candles with the families of hostages held in Gaza at the Defense Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv. “I told the families after our very moving conversation that I hope the lights of Hanukkah will light up the coming days and we will get to see all of the children and parents and women and grandfathers and grandmothers coming home,” Gallant stated. “We are with you in this difficult and extremely tense time, giving you strength and working as determinedly as possible to try and bring them home soon, and alive — everyone,” he added. It has been 65 days since Hamas took around 240 hostages from Israel to Gaza; around 140 are believed to still be there, including about 20 bodies.

Israeli PM Netanyahu said that the surrender of ‘dozens’ of Hamas terrorists a sign of ‘the beginning of the end’. He said in a video statement, "In the past few days, dozens of Hamas terrorists have surrendered before our forces. They put down their weapons and turn themselves over to our brave fighters...It will take more time, the war is still in full force, but this is the beginning of the end of Hamas,” he adds. “I say to the terrorists of Hamas: It’s over. Don’t die for [Yahya] Sinwar. Surrender — now."

Elizabeth Magill, the president of the University of Pennsylvania, resigned her position following furor over what were deemed evasive answers she gave to Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) when questioned about campus policies about antisemitism. The presidents of Harvard and MIT were roundly condemned by Congressional Republicans and Democrats for their answers to committee members' questions in a hearing last week.  resigned her position as leader of the beleaguered college in the wake of a fierce debate over free speech and antisemitism.

Negotiations continue over a new Gaza ceasefire and the freeing of hostages held in Gaza during Israel's bombing campaign, while Qatari PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said at the Doha Forum that  is “narrowing the window” for a successful outcome. Speaking today, he said: “Our efforts as the state of Qatar along with our partners are continuing. We are not going to give up,” sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani told the Doha Forum, adding that “the continuation of the bombardment is just narrowing this window for us”.

“We are going to continue, we are committed to have hostages released, but we are also committed to stop the war,” Qatar’s prime minister said. He added, “we are not seeing the same willingness from both parties”.

Today, the IDF dismissed criticisms over its treatment of captured Hamas terrorists after video emerged showing Gazan men stripped to their undershorts. The IDF said this was routine, while Hamas claimed the men were “unarmed civilians”. Also today, Hamas claimed that the men in the videos did not belong to its Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades. “The (Israeli) occupation’s claims that they are from al-Qassam Brigades are unfounded lies,” said Hamas senior member Izzat al-Rishq. “The Zionist occupation published images and scenes of unarmed civilians in Gaza, after they were detained and weapons were placed next to them, which is nothing but a chapter out of the occupation’s ridiculous and obvious ploy to manufacture an alleged victory over the men of the resistance.”

In Gaza, the IDF claimed its troops arrest and questioned those suspected of “terrorist activity." The Israel army stated: “Individuals who are found not to be taking part in terrorist activities are released,” it added, saying that the detainees are treated in accordance with international law. It is often necessary for terror suspects to hand over their clothes such that their clothes can be searched and to ensure that they are not concealing explosive vests or other weaponry.”

Following a cabinet meeting today, Israeli PM Netanyahu reportedly spent nearly one hour speaking to Russian president Vladimir Putin via telephone.

Israeli armored vehicles have reached the middle of the city of Khan Younis, along its north-south road, in southern Gaza. There were intense firefights overnight that had hindered the IDF's advance from the east. According to Reuters, a resident said shooting and explosions went on for hours. The resident said that IDF tanks reached Jamal Abdel-Nasser Street at the center of Khan Younis, and added that snipers took positions in buildings in the area.

Today, Israeli PM Netanyahu said he told the leaders of France and Germany that their calls for a ceasefire are not congruent with their supposed support for Israel's war to eliminate Hamas. He said, "We are in the midst of Hanukkah, and we remember that 2,200 years ago, three of the five Maccabees fell in battle, but the goal of achieving the independence of Israel and ensuring the thread of life for the Jewish people was achieved. We will also continue until we achieve our goals. The war is continuing, intensively, in both northern and southern Gaza, in order to achieve all of our goals: Eliminating Hamas, returning all of our hostages and ensuring that Gaza will never go back to being a threat to Israel."  “You cannot on the one hand support the elimination of Hamas, and on the other pressure us to end the war, which would prevent the elimination of Hamas.”

Netanyahu also referred to spiking antisemitism in the US, saying: "An additional item that I would like to comment on is the antisemitism in the US. There is a major wave of antisemitism there, from both the left and the right. It has flared up on campuses and universities there, and is breaking forth. I think that it had deep roots that are now finding expression. The important thing that is now happening is that friends and leaders in the Jewish community are finally standing up. They are standing up against this antisemitism. This is the only way to fight it: With pride and honour, not with bowed heads, but to take the fight back to them. On behalf of all of you, I commend them."

Palestinian ambassador to the UK Husam Zomlot told Qatar-based Al Jazeera: "Today, we are faced with the very serious reality that the US is simply enabling Israel to commit the most heinous crimes against humanity. It is genocide of an entire people, killing more than 17,000 of them – 70% of them are women and children. Israel is destroying the majority of our homes, hospitals, schools and infrastructure. It is turning Gaza as per the plan to become unlivable."

Zomlot opined in the Guardian newspaper: "Israel is not engaged in a ‘war’ on Hamas. It is engaged in a war on the Palestinian people. This is amply evidenced by its indiscriminate bombing of Gaza, the genocidal language deployed by Israeli leaders from the very top, and the ethnic cleansing we hear promised and see implemented. This must end."

UN secretary general António Guterres said he has not abandoned seeking a ceasefire in Gaza after the US vetoed a ceasefire at the UN security council on Dec. 8. Speaking in Qatar, he did not criticized the US but said the security council is “paralysed by geostrategic divisions”. He said global institutions “are weak and outdated, caught in a time warp reflecting a reality of 80 years ago”. 

“I urged the security council to press to avert a humanitarian catastrophe and I reiterated my appeal for a humanitarian ceasefire to be declared...“Regrettably, the security council failed to do it, but that does not make it less necessary,” he said. “I will not give up.”

Israel intercepted suspicious "aerial targets" that crossed into the northern part of the country from Lebanon, while it reported that some soldiers were “lightly injured”. In a statement, the IDF said: "Following the sirens that sounded in the western Galilee area in northern Israel, suspicious aerial targets that crossed from Lebanon into Israeli territory were identified and two targets were successfully intercepted by the IDF aerial defence array. Two IDF soldiers were moderately injured, and a number of additional soldiers were lightly injured from shrapnel and smoke inhalation." Israel fired on Hezbollah targets inside Lebanon in retaliation. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for rockets fired from Lebanon and an airspace incursion today in northern Israel.

Israeli forces continues to push on Sunday into southern Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of civilians have fled in search of shelter from bombardments and intense fighting.
The IDF has claimed to have struck “over 250 terror targets” in the last 24 hours. According to local authorities in Gaza, at least 17,700 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 48,780 wounded, by Israeli military actions since 7 October. An additional 7,780 people are believed to be missing. It has not been possible for journalists to independently verify the casualty figures being issued during the conflict.

Israel’s military has forbidden travel down the main north-south Salah al-Din road near the city of Khan Younis, describing it as “a battlefield”. Instead, it advises residents to detour via a coastal road if they are heading south. In its latest update, the UN said that 1.93 million people – 78% of Gaza’s population – are already internally displaced.

The impact of the Israel-Gaza conflict on the territory’s healthcare sector has been “catastrophic”, the World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Sunday. He was spekaing at an emergency board meeting, and said conditions in the territory were ideal for the spread of deadly diseases.

Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for rockets fired from Lebanon and an airspace incursion in northern Israel on Sunday morning.
