Currently, at the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), national delegations, advocates, and civil society organizations are gathering to discuss policy recommendations that will impact the lives of women around the world. During the event, a panel discussion titled “Embracing the Social Significance of Motherhood through the Geneva Consensus Declaration” will take place on March 18 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Led by Argentina’s delegation, it will also feature representatives from the United States and Paraguay. Opening remarks will be delivered by Argentina’s Ambassador to the UN, Francisco Tropepi, alongside Paraguay’s Permanent Representative, Marcelo Scappini Ricciardi, and Bethany Kozma, Director of the Office of Global Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

During the panel, Argentine legal expert and human rights advocate Ursula Basset, and Dr. Rebecca Oas of the Center for Family and Human Rights will speak. Closing remarks will be offered by Natalie Dodson, advisor to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The panel will discuss how public policies can recognize the social contribution of motherhood, strengthen maternal health, and promote better work-life balance in a world marked by declining birth rates and an aging population.

The annual Commission on the Status of Women is the main international forum dedicated to women’s issues at the UN, bringing together delegations from governments, international organizations, and civil society organizations to New York to discuss policies related to women's rights.
